Death of a Loved One

DEATH WITH A TRUST

If your loved one passes away and had a trust, we’re here to help you make sure everything is handled the right way. We’ll work with you to:

  • Give the money and property to the people named in the trust.
  • Pay any remaining debts or bills.
  • Follow Michigan’s laws carefully to avoid mistakes or delays.
  • Protect you if you’re in charge of the trust, and support your family members who will receive assets.

A trust can often help you avoid going to court, but there are still important steps you must take. We guide you through every one of them.

DEATH WITH A WILL

If your loved one had a will, the process usually involves probate court. Probate is when the court confirms that the will is valid and followed correctly. We help you by:

  • Making sure Michigan’s probate rules are followed.
  • Handling debts and helping address any family disagreements.
  • Ensuring the people named in the will receive what they’re entitled to receive.
  • Assisting you in carrying out the will quickly and correctly.

Probate can take time, but we make it easier for you to manage.

DEATH WITHOUT A TRUST OR WILL

If your loved one passes away without a trust or will, Michigan law decides who will inherit their property. This is called dying “intestate.” We help you by:

  • Following state laws to determine who should receive property.
  • Working with the court to settle debts and divide assets fairly.
  • Avoiding costly mistakes or delays.

Even without written instructions, we make sure everything is handled with care, you avoid unnecessary liability, and respect for your family.
